Since his return to WWE programming following WrestleMania 34, Big Cass has been feuding with Daniel Bryan. WWE officials have been working hard to get him over as a heel. He was taken off SmackDown Live for a few weeks to sell an “injury” to his knee, but he’s returned to resume the rivalry with Bryan. However, there could be a problem.
According to the Wrestling Observer, Big Cass is responsible for SmackDown Live’s low ratings over recent weeks. In particular, the WWE Universe was excited to see Daniel Bryan vs. Samoa Joe this week. Bryan Alvarez is speculating that Big Cass’ involvement killed a lot of momentum of the match and the WWE Universe’s interest in the match.

There have been multiple reports about him rubbing people wrong backstage and going against WWE officials demands on television. As someone who’s not truly over as a heel on SmackDown Live, Cass should not be starting trouble for himself. Going forward, Big Cass’ performance and drawing power will be tested heading into Money in the Bank.
Losing the first match against Daniel Bryan by submission didn’t do Cass any favors. He beat down Bryan and walked out with heat, but he needs at least one huge win to build himself as a bigger threat on the blue brand. It’s possible his rivalry with Daniel Bryan will last through Summerslam. Afterward, he should be in a much better position.
Big Cass has proven that he’s capable of getting real heat against the right babyface:
He’s receiving a strong push and opportunity against Daniel Bryan, but it’s going to take some time for the WWE Universe to accept Big Cass as a top heel on SmackDown Live. If he can’t give people a reason to watch his matches, Cass’ push won’t last much longer.
