Alberto Del Rio has had a disappointing run with WWE since returning last October. It started off strong by having him be the one to dethrone John Cena and take the United States Championship.
However, Del Rio’s US title run didn’t get a lot of momentum, the League of Nations stable has been considered a failure, and he’s been floating around the midcard until his suspension took him off WWE television.
According to a report from RingSideNews.com, Alberto Del Rio still has an “escape clause” in his current WWE contract that would allow him to leave the company in September or October.
The expectation is that Del Rio is on his way out of the company due to his attitude backstage and his lack of direction on WWE programming.
It seems that he won’t be returning to WWE television after his suspension expires in mid-September, so Del Rio will either use his clause to leave WWE, or his contract will expire roughly a month or so later.
Alberto Del Rio is still a great wrestler, but there is just a disconnect between the performer he is and the performer WWE officials want him to be.
Do you think Alberto Del Rio has been misused?
