After WrestleMania 31, AJ Lee quietly retired from wrestling and has not appeared on WWE programming since. She’s been busy writing her autobiography and becoming an advocate for bipolar disorder awareness. Every so often, she’ll be asked about a return to WWE. Even with everything happening with her husband, you can never say never.
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, it seems very unlikely the former WWE Divas Champion will return to the company any time soon. AJ mentioned in her book that she made the choice to step away from the ring in 2015 due to some ongoing physical issues.

As a result, it’s unlikely she would return for an extended run. Others have returned for a one-off here and there, but it would take a unique situation to bring AJ back to WWE television. After more than three years away, a huge return could also expose her flaws.
AJ Lee was an excellent storyteller and her mic skills were ahead of the curve before the “Women’s Revolution” changed the division. There’s no question that AJ was ahead of her time, but she might struggle in the ring to keep up with the current crop of women in the division. WWE’s women have evolved, which is ultimately what she wanted.

With CM Punk’s legal issues with the company, it’s highly unlikely the invitation will be extended to AJ Lee anytime soon. A WWE Hall of Fame induction could be in the cards someday. Some fans don’t believe she was a performer long enough to deserve such an honor, but it’s hard to ignore her accomplishments and impact on women’s wrestling.
