In 2013, the IC Title was not as prestigious as it had been. Great names like Rowdy Roddy Piper, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, or even Macho Man Randy Savage associated their names with that championship. Punk would have been the perfect guy to recognize the history of the belt and make it relevant again.

As Intercontinental Champion, Punk’s purpose would have been to bring prestige back to the IC Championship and establish his name alongside the legends that got him into wrestling. That would have been a wonderful story to tell as Punk chased Intercontinental Championship history.
