In early 2014, CM Punk was at the end of his rope. A year after being WWE Champion for 434 days, before dropping the title to The Rock and being denied the main event of Wrestlemania; Punk’s desire to both physically and mentally continue being a pro wrestling diminished until Punk walked way on his own terms.

His body and mind could have been given time to heal, but Punk’s wrestling career could have been saved, if he had returned after Wrestlemania 29 and been thrust into an Intercontinental Championship reign over that summer.
