That’s a logical move. The wrestling world, as part of the world as a whole, is in a weird situation right now as every day brings some kind of change to the entire situation brought on by the Coronavirus. The disease has spread around the world at an alarming rate and at the moment, it isn’t clear when things are going to get better. WWE has taken notice and as a result, a WrestleMania match has been changed accordingly.
As we head towards WrestleMania 36, most of the card is already set. Several of the matches are going to be built around a major grudge, including AJ Styles vs. the Undertaker. This week on Monday Night Raw, Styles announced that their match would be a Boneyard match, which brought up the obvious question: what the heck is a Boneyard match? Now we have a better idea.
Styles appeared on his Mixer stream over the weekend and discussed the Boneyard match. According to Styles, WWE originally wanted to call the match a Graveyard match or Cemetery match but the names were rejected due to the Coronavirus’ spread. The match was filmed outside of the WWE Performance Center, though it is not clear how the rules will work. This will be the first time Styles and Undertaker have met in a singles match of any kind.
It has been a personal buildup. Check out how we got here:
Opinion: The name change makes a lot of sense as the spread of the virus is seemingly not going away anytime soon. WrestleMania is designed to be a diversion from reality and making fans sad over the name of a match is not a good idea no matter how you look at it. Go with something similar but different enough to make it work and things will be better all around.
