At least it’s not a concert. One of the longest running traditions at Wrestlemania is to have a famous singer come in to perform “America the Beautiful”. This has ranged from Ray Charles to Boyz To Men to Aretha Franklin to Willie Nelson. The tradition is continuing this year as well.
According to her Twitter, R&B singer Tinashe will be performing the song at “Wrestlemania XXXIII” on April 2. There is no word on whether or not there will be a mini-concert at the show but occasionally this has been left until the very last minute. This is the only celebrity announcement thus far.
Opinion: I’m not familiar with Tinashe but there have been some outstanding renditions of the song and there’s every possibility that she’ll be added to the list. I’ve always kind of liked the fact that America the Beautiful is used instead of the Star Spangled Banner, which is done at almost every other sporting event. Sometimes a little change is nice.
