So who do you have now? The spread of the Coronavirus has changed the way the wrestling world works as there is only so much that can be done when wrestlers are stuck in different countries. WWE has noticed just that and has decided on a solution to get around the problem with one of their current champions. Now we know a lot more about how they are dealing with things.
Earlier this week, WWE announced a tournament to crown a new Interim Cruiserweight Champion due to regular champion Jordan Devlin not being able to defend the title at the moment. The tournament is set to be held under a round robin format, featuring two groups of four wrestlers each. Each wrestler will face the other three wrestlers in his group and the wrestler with the best record from each group will face off for the title. Now we know where this is going.
WWE has officially announced the two groups of wrestlers who will compete for the Interim Cruiserweight Title. The groups are divided up as follows:
Group A
Kushida
Drake Maverick
Tony Nese
Jake Atlas
Group B
Isaiah Scott
El Hijo del Fantasma
Akira Tozawa
Jack Gallagher
There are few details other than the names being announced at the moment. The tournament will begin on this Wednesday’s NXT, though there is no word on how long it will take to complete the tournament. Under the four man round robin format, there will be twelve matches needed to reach the final round. There is no word on when a champion will be crowned.
Some of these wrestlers don’t get in the ring too often. Check out some of the more frequent performers:
Opinion: I’m curious to see how this goes as there isn’t someone who jumps out above everyone else. They really could go in several directions here and that makes for some interesting options. I’m not sure who is going to wind up winning the tournament and while I’m not sure how things are going to go, I’m curious to see how we get there. Maybe we can even get in some good matches along the way.
