They had a reason. The most recent editions of SmackDown and Monday Night Raw were focused on the annual WWE Draft, with dozens of wrestlers being selected to either of the two shows. In addition, there were wrestlers from NXT being called up to the main roster. This year’s edition was somewhat lacking when it came to big moves though and now we know more about why.

This year’s Draft saw most of the picks involving wrestlers staying on the brands they were in before the Draft took place. According to WrestleVotes, this was due to WWE being happy with how the rosters looked at the top of the card. However, a few trades are still expected to take place before the May 6 Monday Night Raw when the rosters will be officially locked in.
Sources indicate that WWE is generally pleased with the draft results and how everything played out on TV. I’ve been told they didn’t want too much high level shuffling as they were satisfied with the pre-draft breakdowns at the top of the card. It’s worth mentioning that a trade…

Opinion: That does make some sense, but at the same time, it makes the Draft look like nothing more than a cheap ratings ploy. WWE could have avoided a lot of this by lowering the amount of picks or something similar, but what they did wasn’t exactly thrilling. At least we got some picks from NXT to make it feel more important, though they were kind of few and far between.
