Adios El Rey. “Lucha Underground” is currently on a midseason hiatus which seems to be going on until the spring or the summer. However, when they come back it might be on a completely different platform. For the first two and a half seasons, the show aired on the El Rey Network. That might be changing soon.
According to PWInsider, and take this with a grain of salt, the talk is that the promotion might move over to Netflix at some point in the future. A lot of the information comes from Konnan, who does seem to know some people behind the scenes. Here’s the full rumor, courtesy of PWInsider.com:
“El Rey has split the current season up with the idea that it would air towards the latter part of 2017, which was not the plan when it was filmed. The fact El Rey has canceled its flagship series “From Dusk ‘Till Dawn” is telling in terms of their future plans in my opinion, but again, we will see what happens. There has been very little promotional support for LU this season and obviously no touring for the brand beyond a few shows in the Southwest, so the series has yet to morph beyond being a very different and fun TV series.”
It’s not like “Lucha Underground” has anywhere to go but up. Word on the street is that the wrestlers aren’t happy with the way the show has been going and this season hasn’t been quite as strong as the previous two. If nothing else this probably expands their audience quite a bit so maybe it’s a good thing for them, assuming it happens.
