Consider it a tryout. Over the last few weeks, one of the more interesting stories in wrestling has been waiting to see if CM Punk is going to be working for FOX as an analyst on Fox Sports 1’s Backstage show. The show will feature expert analysts talking about goings on in wrestling and discussing WWE stories. That is something that you have to practice before you get there and even though Punk knows a lot about wrestling, he is going to need to do some of this before he goes onto Backstage (if he does). Well as it turns out, he is smart enough to get in the practice that he needs.
As part of his promotion for his upcoming horror movie The Girl On The Third Floor, Punk appeared in a video for GQ Sports where he breaks down a series of wrestling scenes in Hollywood movies and a television show. These scenes are from the Wrestler, Nacho Libre, Ready To Rumble, Paradise Alley, GLOW, Spider-Man and Fighting With My Family. Punk talks about the wrestling in the scenes and explains some of the thinking that comes with wrestling while explaining if some of the films got everything right.
Punk is pretty good at something like this. Check out Punk breaking everything down.
Opinion: Punk really does seem to have a lot of talent with something like this as he knows pop culture references to go with his wrestling knowledge. I could go with the idea of Punk as a guest host on Backstage as he would certainly bring in the wrestling audience who miss seeing him around. That being said, it isn’t clear if he is going to actually do it or not, because it seems that FOX is losing interest in having him there. Either that or Punk is going to be a big surprise, which would certainly work as a way to start things off. Neither would surprise me here, which is a rather fun feeling.
Do you think Punk will appear on Backstage? Will he ever wrestle again? Let us know in the comments below.
Oh and he can teach English too. Check out CM Punk’s Grammar Slam’s glorious return:
