That’s a detail. Wrestling is not like other sports as it does not exactly have a beginning and an ending. Rather than having a season, wrestlers tend to just keep going until they stop or are not used anymore. It can be a big deal when someone steps away from the ring for one reason or another and we heard about such a thing for one of the biggest names ever. Now we know an important detail about the situation.

Over the weekend at WWE Money In The Bank, John Cena announced that he would be retiring from in-ring competition next year. Cena said that he would be appearing on Monday Night Raw on Netflix next year, as well as competing at the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania.
Cena appeared at the Money In The Bank post show and added more details, including that he would be hoping to wrestle throughout the year. This included 30-40 dates, though he did not say how many would be matches. In addition, Cena said that while his in-ring career would be over, he still hoped to contribute to WWE in some way for years to come. There is no word on when Cena will wrestle his next match or next appear on WWE TV.
This is a big one. Check out Cena’s two announcements and part of his time in the ring:
Opinion: That is certainly an interesting way to go as you do not often see someone having a full year spent on their retirement. That being said, Cena is one of the few people who deserves that kind of attention. Cena is one of the biggest stars in the company’s history and giving him one heck of a sendoff is a good way to go, as it could lead to some excellent moments as Cena gets ready to leave.
