Who cares if you’re old? Despite being 47 years old, Christopher Daniels might be having the best run of his entire career. Now the reigning Ring of Honor World Champion, Daniels is finally on top of a promotion that he’s been around since nearly the beginning. That includes some extra interviews, including a recent one with some interesting remarks.
Daniels recently spoke with “A Music Blog, Yea?” on a variety of topics including what it means to be wrestling at his age, how it felt to finally become a World Champion and his dream opponent, among some other topics. Here are some highlights with transcription courtesy of Wrestlinginc.com:
On Winning His First World Title
“Certainly a sense of relief, an idea that a long journey had come to an end. If you’d asked me a year if I would ever get an opportunity to be World Champion again, I probably would have said, ‘No.’ I concentrated so much on the tag team [division], with Frankie [Kazarian].”
On Wrestling at His Age
And on His Dream Opponent
“Chris Jericho, I don’t think it’s going to happen, just because of his schedule. [A] very busy man and when he goes back to the wrestling ring, it’s for the WWE and I don’t think I’ll ever get an opportunity to wrestle for them, but that was a dream of mine to wrestle him. Someone I respected and tried to emulate, the perfect combination of athlete and entertainer was Chris Jericho.”
Opinion: The more I hear from Daniels, the more I like him. It seems that he’s having the time of his life being at the top of Ring of Honor, even if it’s just for a short time. Odds are he’s not going to be wrestling much longer and it’s nice to see him get a reign like this after all the effort he’s put in over the years.
