I’d call that a shot. The Wednesday Night War have been one of the most interesting things in wrestling over the last year and a half. NXT and AEW Dynamite have been going head to head almost every week since October 2019 and that has made for some rather fun battles on Wednesday nights. Not all of the shots have been in the ring though, as one of the better ones took place on the microphone this week.
One of the more personal feuds currently taking place in AEW is between the Inner Circle’s Maxwell Jacob Friedman and Chris Jericho and the Young Bucks. The two teams will face off for the Bucks Tag Team Titles at Revolution this coming Sunday, but there was a way to set things up first. Last week Jericho and Friedman attacked the Bucks’ father, which meant it was time for some verbal retaliation.
This sums it all up. Check out a great shot across the bow:
This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured a press conference with Jericho and Friedman. The Bucks interrupted and talked about what their father taught them and how it led to the formation of AEW. Matt Jackson said that without their father’s influence, Jericho would probably be “jerking the curtain tonight at the Performance Center” instead of appearing on Dynamite. The four got into a brawl after the insults.
Opinion: That was the kind of line that made my mouth pop open because you don’t get that kind of an insult very often. If nothing else, it is interesting when you can see AEW taking a shot at NXT, as Jackson made it clear that NXT was far beneath where they were on Dynamite. You may or may not agree, but at the same time it was certainly quite the line from Jackson.
