They had an idea. WWE has quite a few decisions to make on any given event and the biggest of them all is WrestleMania. As the biggest show of the year, WrestleMania requires more effort than any other event and WWE certainly understands the concept. This year they seemingly had to change plans though and now we know a bit more about what happened with the changes.

Earlier this year, Royal Ruble winner Cody Rhodes seemingly agreed to give his WrestleMania title shot to the Rock. This led to a wave of backlash from the fans who wanted Rhodes to get the shot instead. The match was eventually changed back to Reigns vs. Rhodes, with the Rock joining forces with Reigns instead. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE expected some backlash from the original plans but did not know how intense the reaction would be. The original hope was that Rhodes’ endorsement of the Rock would be enough to keep Reigns vs. Rock on track but that was not the case.

Opinion: This is where it seems things have really changed in WWE. Back in the day, WWE had a reputation of going through with the plans they had no matter what kind of a negative reaction they received. In this case, it seemed that WWE had a backup plan and shifted in the other direction when things went the wrong way. That is something you do not see happen very often but it could be quite the upgrade for WWE going forward.
