It comes with the title. The big moment to end WrestleMania 36 saw Drew McIntyre defeating Brock Lesnar to finally become WWE Champion. This is something that a lot of fans have been waiting to see for a very long time now and it is an overdue sight. McIntyre is now on top of the show and that means it is time to have some challengers. One of them came sooner than McIntyre might have expected.
Some of you older fans might remember WrestleMania 9, which was not exactly well received. Part of the reason for this was the ending, which saw Yokozuna win the WWF Title from Bret Hart, only to have Hulk Hogan run in for a nearly immediate challenge. Hogan would win the title, completely negating the main event of WrestleMania. That was almost the case this week.
The main event of this week’s Monday Night Raw was a match that took place Sunday night after McIntyre won the WWE Championship from Lesnar at WrestleMania 36. Big Show came to the ring and challenged McIntyre to a title match then and there. A slap to the face convinced McIntyre to put the title on the line, with McIntyre winning the match with the Claymore to retain.
This wasn’t the nicest thing in the world. Check out how the title match was set up:
Opinion: I’ll give them points for this: they had me believing that they might actually change the title here, even though it would have been one of the most questionable decisions the company had made in years. Thankfully sanity prevailed and they managed to make me believe the near impossible. That’s a sign of something well done so hopefully they can do more of this under McIntyre’s reign.
