Sticking to the classics. There are a lot of things that go into making someone a star in wrestling and some of them are a bit more obvious than others. One of the most important things is their entrance music, especially if it is part of a grand entrance package. That has been the case more than once over the years and someone paid tribute to a classic this week.
A video has been posted to Twitter showing SmackDown broadcaster Pat McAfee making his entrance to Metallica’s Enter Sandman while carrying a Singapore cane. McAfee beat on the announcers’ table with the cane before taking his seat. This was done as a tribute to the Sandman, who wrestled in the original run of ECW. This week’s SmackDown took place in Philadelphia, ECW’s home city.
This was pretty amazing. Check out the entrance, the original, plus what else McAfee can do:
Opinion: This is the kind of thing that WWE needs more of: something fun. This was about giving the fans something to cheer about and it fired up the crowd for the live event. WWE does not do things like this often enough and McAfee did his thing very well. It was such a fun moment and that’s all you need to do to get a crowd going for a show. Do more of this in the future.
