It’s just something that happens. WrestleMania has evolved a lot over the years. With so many entries in its long history, it isn’t surprising that what you see today is very different from what you saw over thirty years ago. The show is still the biggest wrestling event of the year, but there is a lot more thinking and planning that goes into it these days. That includes for the setup and the wrestling itself, with the latter being taken care of this week.

One of the things that you will always see from WrestleMania is the power of legends and special attractions. Since WrestleMania is one of the only shows of the year that a lot of fans will watch, they are going to want to see some names that they remember, often in a big dream match that could only happen once a year. That is the case this time around again, as something big happened on Thursday.

On Thursday at Super ShowDown, Goldberg defeated the Fiend to become the new Universal Champion. After the match was over, Fiend popped up and stared at Goldberg before disappearing to end the show. This marks Goldberg’s second reign as champion and likely sets him up to defend the title at WrestleMania 36. Fiend has been rumored to face John Cena at WrestleMania.

Here’s how it went down. Check out the short match:

Opinion: This isn’t going to sit well with a lot of people and I can completely understand that. It’s the kind of decision that will be rather polarizing and with good reason. It derails a lot of what Fiend had done over the last several months for the sake of a short term story and that may not be everyone’s cup of tea. That being said, it’s going to get some attention and that’s what WWE was hoping for with this move.
