A change in tradition? One of the best things about a Big Four pay per view weekend is all of the action that you’re going to get. The weekend usually includes Monday Night Raw, SmackDown Live, the pay per view itself and what is often the crown jewel of the four days: NXT’s Takeover. The system works quite well, but things might be changing a bit in the near future.
WWE’s official travel packages page for the 2020 Royal Rumble is listing a Worlds Collide special on the Saturday before the Royal Rumble rather than a Takeover, which is not mentioned whatsoever. This would be the first time that a Takeover has not accompanied a Big Four pay per view since Survivor Series 2015. There is no word on why the change was made, though there is always a chance of a Takeover being added later.
The Royal Rumble weekend Takeover can be great. Check out part of this year’s edition:
Opinion: I’m not sure what the point in making such a change would be but I can imagine it has something to do with NXT going live every week. That being said, not putting a Takeover on the weekend of the Royal Rumble seems like quite the waste as you have a lot of people in town ready to spend money. Why not have them spend it at Takeover rather than somewhere else? Is another Worlds Collide going to draw the same level of interest?
What do you think of the change? Will there be a Takeover: Houston? Let us know in the comments below.
