Two Titles Change Hands at “Payback 2017”

Not a good night to defend. The build to “Payback 2017” was a bit of an odd one with the two rosters being all turned around thanks to the Superstar Shakeup. One thing that was clear though was that a lot of titles would be on the line and as it turned out, things didn’t go all that well for the champions.

Earlier tonight at “Payback 2017”, two titles changed hands out of four titles being defended. Alexa Bliss became the new Raw Women’s Champion by defeating Bayley and Chris Jericho won the United States Title from Kevin Owens, sending Jericho over to “Smackdown Live” in the process. Cruiserweight Champion Neville lost to Austin Aries via DQ, meaning the only champions to win their match was the Hardy Boys, who defeated Sheamus and Cesaro.

Opinion: Title changes make the shows feel more important and that’s what we had here. The Jericho vs. Kevin Owens match in particular felt like a big deal, mainly because it was such a surprise. With Jericho leaving to tour with Fozzy soon, there’s a good chance that the title changes right back but at least it was a moment here.
