Welcome back in a big way. Last week on Monday Night Raw, Jeff Hardy made his return to active competition after being sidelined since the fall with a torn rotator cuff. When he came back, it wasn’t clear if he would be wrestling as a singles star or with his brother Matt in the Broken Universe. Last week suggested that he would be going it alone, and tonight showed that not only is he going it alone, but that he’s succeeding.

He’s back in a big way.

Jinder Mahal vs. Jeff Hardy - United States Championship Match: Raw, April 16, 2018

This week on Monday Night Raw, Hardy defeated United States Champion Jinder Mahal in an impromptu match to win the title for the first time in his career. Mahal had been brought to Monday Night Raw in the Superstar Shakeup and was put in the match by General Manager Kurt Angle, who didn’t think much of Mahal’s attitude upon arriving on the new show. After his loss, Mahal invoked his rematch clause and will be facing Hardy again at the Greatest Royal Rumble later this month.

Opinion: I’ll take anyone over Mahal at this point so this is a welcome change of pace. Hardy is an interesting choice to take the title due to his legal issues in recent weeks but it’s certainly clear that WWE still sees the star power in him. The win suggests that they’re putting a rocket to his back in short order just to see what they might be able to get out of Hardy before he’s done for good. It’s a risky play but there’s so much potential there that it’s worth a shot.

What do you think of the title change? How long will Hardy hold the title? Let us know in the comments below.
