Time constraints. WWE runs several television shows every week and most of them are scripted down to the very last second. The matches and segments on the shows are timed out as well as possible but that does not mean everything is going to go as it is supposed to. Sometimes a portion has to be changed due to one reason or another and that was the case this week.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: To Be Determined: 59 Year Old Wrestling Legend Still Considering Return To The Ring
This week’s SmackDown opened with a Rock segment, featuring him singing a song mocking Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes. Following the match, Legado del Fantasma defeated the LWO in a match that lasted about eleven minutes, counting the entrances and post match. According to Fightful Select by way of Wrestlingnews.co, the match was originally set to run over two segments but was cut due to the Rock’s segment going long. There is nothing to suggest anything else had to be cut from the show.
Both of them worked. Check out the segments, plus more from the show:
Opinion: I’m not overly surprised that the show had to be changed given how long that Rock segment went. It might be annoying to have Rock take up that much time on a two hour show, but at the end of the day, the Rock only has so much time to spend in WWE and it makes sense to give him that much of the show. Also, the tag match did get some time and was hardly trimmed down to nothing.
