What could have been. We are still in a rather strange time in WWE as things are changing rather frequently. While the company is slowly starting to get back to normal as the Coronavirus pandemic starts to get a little bit better. The wrestlers are still in a state of flux though and that could be the case for a long time to come. As it turns out, one of the wrestlers who has not been around very often lately almost had a much different path before the pandemic hit.
There are a lot of wrestlers who you may not see very often in WWE despite them having quite the following. This can make for a rather confusing situation at times, but it has always been the case in wrestling and that is never going to change. There is not much that fans can do but wait, though it can be interesting to see what would have been the case with a minor change. That seems to be the case again with a certain missing WWE star.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Aleister Black was the other possible option to take the WWE Championship from Brock Lesnar in 2020. Drew McIntyre eventually took the title from him at WrestleMania 36, after eliminating Lesnar from the 2020 Royal Rumble. Black has yet to win a title in WWE and has not wrestled a match for the company since October 2020.
This comes as Black is rumored to be on his way back to WWE, with the company reportedly filming vignettes for his return. It is still not clear why Black fell out of favor with the company, though it is believed to be a combination of his wife, Thea Trinidad/Zelina Vega being released from the company and Vince McMahon personally not seeing any star power in Black.
Who did it better? Check out the two of them, including McIntyre going after Lesnar:
Opinion: This seems like a rather WWE thing to do, as the company had two talented wrestlers but since they did not see something for one of them, they just dropped them off of television. It is quite the change of pace to see a wrestler go from possibly winning the WWE Title at WrestleMania to not even being around about nine months later, though is it really that surprising?
I really hope that Black gets another chance, as he has so much talent to offer to the company. He has an aura to him that almost no one else has and an awesome finisher which can take anyone down. I’m not sure why WWE would want to do leave him off of television, but I would hope that it is for something better than punishing him for what his wife did.
