Bring them all on. Last month, Shinsuke Nakamura won the 2018 men’s Royal Rumble, earning himself a World Title shot at “Wrestlemania XXXIV”. Nakamura didn’t waste any time, announcing that he wanted to face Smackdown World Champion AJ Styles. The match was set provided Styles retained the title. To do that though, he needed a #1 contender, which was to be decided this week.
This week on “Smackdown Live”, Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens faced off in a #1 contenders match with the winner getting the shot at Styles’ title at “Fastlane 2018”. The match ended in a no contest when Styles interfered. Therefore, General Manager Daniel Bryan announced that since neither Zayn nor Owens lost, they would both receive a title shot at the upcoming pay per view.
Here’s what the show’s bosses and Styles had to say before the main event.
Shane McMahon calls out Daniel Bryan for his treatment of Owens & Zayn: SmackDown LIVE, Feb. 6, 2018
Opinion: The match makes sense on paper but I’m rather sick of seeing these three fight, especially as a means of continuing Bryan vs. Shane McMahon in their passive aggressive power struggle. The wrestling should be fine, but it would be nicer to have the match be about the people in it rather than the people setting it up.
