He has his own voice. There are a lot of problems in the current WWE system and a lot of fans have made their issues with them very clear. One of the biggest complaints has been with the way promos are put together, including wrestlers having to recite previously scripted promos. It is a rare privilege to be allowed to say something of your own choosing, and a lot of current wrestlers are not happy with the system. It turns out that one of the more controversial wrestlers in the company made his issues known backstage.
Dolph Ziggler was recently interviewed by the Alex McCarthy of the UK’s Talk Sport and talked about a time where he complained about a promo that he was told to say. The promo, which Ziggler described as taking place a few years ago, called for Ziggler to say that when his back was to the wall, the only thing that mattered to him was to entertain the WWE Universe. Ziggler did not like this and wanted to say that he was fighting to be the best. When he complained, he was told that he would either say the script as prepared or he would not be talking that night.
Ziggler can talk. Check out one of his more intense promos:
This complaint comes only a few months after Jon Moxley, the former Dean Ambrose, left the company, citing a series of problems with the creative process. Moxley made similar complains about how the WWE’s promos were written in a way that he would never say. Moxley talked about how he would complain about things and basically be told to say them as he was told to or say nothing. Most wrestlers are not allowed to say what they want in WWE, though AEW has made it a point to give wrestlers more freedom in promos.
It was a heck of a feud. Check out more of Ziggler vs. Miz:
Opinion: Can you blame Ziggler for thinking that sounds bad? Who is going to say that they want to entertain in what is supposed to be a serious moment? As is the case ever so often in wrestling, no one talks that way and it sounds like something written by someone with no experience in wrestling. That doesn’t work and takes a lot of people out of the moment, and I still have no idea why it’s supposed to sound good. Maybe it’s to validate the people who write the scripts, but can they at least try to sound like they’re in a fight?
How bad did the line sound? Should Ziggler have complained? Let us know in the comments below.
