That’s one way to make a show work. We are less than a week away from Extreme Rules and that means the card is mostly set. While there is always the chance that WWE could throw in a surprise near the end, which they will likely do on their final television show before Sunday, the card currently features six matches. That might not be enough to fill in the time, but WWE may have a plan.

Extreme Rules is going to be a different kind of show than what WWE usually presents, as it will feature at least one if not two cinematic matches. These matches have an ability to eat up a lot of the time on the show, which can help a lot with such a thin card. However, there is something else that WWE may have planned, which is a lot simpler of an idea than you might expect.

According to Tom Colohue on the Dropkick DiSKussion podcast, WWE has issued a mandate to have longer matches, both on television and pay per views. The idea is to use the resources available at the moment, as several wrestlers have been missing from the events due to the Coronavirus. There is no word on how long the matches will run or how late the pay per view will go.

This could make for an interesting show. Check out what Extreme Rules has done before, plus the full podcast:

Opinion: That really is one of those ideas that makes so much sense, even though WWE doesn’t seem to go with it all that often. However, some of the more recent television shows have featured some longer matches. If they do something like that on pay per view, it should be fine enough, even if the card might not have the most hype coming into the show.
