The back door? The last week has shown one thing: WWE’s deal with Saudi Arabia is one of the most confusing and at times messy situations that the company has had in a very long time. Yes they are making money (or at least they are supposed to be) but there are a lot more details to go with the situation than just that. The company also has to deal with the international backlash of doing business with Saudi Arabia, while also dealing with the fact that the wrestlers themselves don’t seem happy with the whole thing. So a way out could be what they need.
Over the course of the last week, stories have come in regarding the situation with Crown Jewel, with various sources saying that Vince McMahon delayed the feed to the show by an hour, that Saudi Arabia was not paying the company for the show, that most of the talent was left in the country while McMahon and other executives left on an earlier flight, and that the talent was saying they would never come back to the country again. While it is not clear which of these stories is true, it is clear that something happened and something has to change.
According to Brad Shepard on his Oh, You Didn’t Know Patreon by way of Ringsidenews.com, a meeting on Monday may determine the future of WWE’s deal with Saudi Arabia. The country’s government will meet with the Saudi Vision 2030, which is putting on the shows, to determine if the deal should continue. This is possibly due to McMahon delaying the feed to Crown Jewel, though that may just be an excuse to get rid of the deal entirely. The deal calls for WWE to run two shows a year in the country for an unspecified amount, though it is believed to be around $50 million per show. Should the deal be canceled, WWE’s stock will take a hit and will need to drastically change its budget.
Leave the memories alone. Check out what happened at the most recent (and best) Saudi Arabian show:
Opinion: This is a scenario that sounds like it could be a good thing for the fans but it would be a huge hit to the company’s financial status. One of the biggest things that they have going for them is the Saudi Arabian money but if that goes away, I’m not sure how good things will look. Yes they got a lot of money out of the first two years of the deal, but that leaves eight years of non-payment on the table. I’m not sure what is going to happen with the thing, but it would rock WWE if Saudi Arabia gets rid of the whole thing.
