Rock Producing Wrestling Series For HBO

He has some connections. Wrestling is in an interesting place as the industry is getting a level of attention that is has not received in years. Between the Dark Side of the Ring series, the Paige biopic Fighting With My Family or GLOW on Netflix, there has not been this much mainstream spotlight on wrestling in a very long time. That might be the case again soon.

There are no stars in all of Hollywood and entertainment bigger than the Rock. He left wrestling practically for good about seventeen years ago and while he has become a full time actor, Rock has looked back to wrestling a few times and it has been a good thing for everyone involved. Now he is bringing the two sides together a little bit and in an interesting way.

According to Variety.com, the Rock will be executive producing an upcoming HBO series called TRE CNT, which will focus on the creation of a backyard wrestling federation. Each episode will last thirty minutes and will focus on a part time wrestler who inherits a fortune and starts a wrestling promotion centered around hip hop music in Houston. There is no word on when the series will debut.

Opinion: This sounds rather interesting and could be something that works out well for everyone involved. Rock has a strong list of successes under his belt and seeing his take on a wrestling series could be interesting. It doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel, but giving us something from this direction could be rather entertaining. Rock doesn’t need to appear in the show, but having him do something with it should be great.
