He’s kind of a natural. Every now and then you see someone coming up in the wrestling business who makes it look so easy. There is something about them that makes them feel like a natural and that is one of the best things that you can see. It is a treat to see them, but now we might not be seeing one of them on NXT television again, at least for the time being.
Earlier this year, Pat McAfee debuted as a semi regular character in NXT, eventually facing Adam Cole in a losing effort at Takeover. McAfee returned as the mouthpiece for Oney Lorcan, Danny Burch and Pete Dunne, eventually joining them against the Undisputed Era against the Undisputed Era in WarGames. McAfee keeps getting these spots because he is one of the best natural heels that has been seen in years, but now he might not be seen as much anymore.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has decided to take McAfee off of NXT television for the foreseeable future, with an expected return of the late spring. It is not clear why McAfee is being taken off, but the decision was not his to make. There is no word on what McAfee will be doing once he gets back to NXT television, or if he will be mentioned until then.
Opinion: I can’t say I’m overly surprised at this as McAfee has a lot of things taking up his time and appearing on weekly television is not going to be the easiest thing. If nothing else, having him show up every now and then is going to do wonders for his longevity, as anyone is going to lose some steam if they are around all the time. Let him pop in as a special attraction and everything will work out fine given how good he is on the microphone.
