So that’s what they were going to do? Last week on Monday Night Raw, Vince McMahon (as Santa Claus) officially announced the Women’s Tag Team Titles. While long rumored, this was the first time the titles had been officially mentioned on WWE TV. We didn’t get an exact launch date for the titles but it should be in the near future. However, it turns out they almost had a different history.
According to title belt maker Belts By Dan, the titles were originally going to be introduced back around Summerslam but WWE didn’t like the design and dropped the idea for the time. While it isn’t clear how they would have gotten the titles, the plans called for Sasha Banks and Bayley to become the first champions. The two have since talked about wanting to be the first Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Thanks to @TheTopBananaDW and @HazardF5 for sending me these caps before original post was deleted. I asked around a little and this is what I was told: pic.twitter.com/mzVZHTyOht

That’s not what history says. Rather than seeing the announcement again, check out a match for the original WWF Women’s Tag Team Titles:
Opinion: This wouldn’t surprise me at all as the titles have been rumored for a long time now. I’m not sure why they haven’t been delayed but WWE not liking the designs of the titles wouldn’t be shocking. They can be very picky about things like that and if it affects the amount of replica title belts they sell, changing things up wouldn’t be shocking. Hopefully the new belts work better and we get to see them quickly.
