That sounds like it’s official. We’re less than a week away from AEW’s Double Or Nothing. Normally that wouldn’t be the biggest deal in the world as it’s just the company’s debut event, but AEW isn’t like any other company. The talent roster and the huge television deal with TNT have made AEW a player like few others, and WWE has actually taken notice of the situation.
According to F4WOnline.com, WWE held a talent meeting before Money In The Bank on Sunday night with Stephanie McMahon in charge. McMahon mentioned AEW by name, calling them competition. While such speeches are normal in WWE, mentioning another company by name is not something that ever happens in them. McMahon also said that WWE was competing with other forms of entertainment such as movies and streaming services.
McMahon certainly can give a speech. Check out McMahon yelling at John Cena:
Opinion: The fact that WWE is actually acknowledging AEW is rather interesting, especially considering they still haven’t actually had an event yet. Double Or Nothing is likely going to be a success no matter what but the question is where things go from there. AEW could be competition in the future and the fact that WWE is already sensing that is a big deal. It’s been a long time since this has been the case and now it could go somewhere very intriguing in a hurry.
