Breaking up is easy to do. There are a lot of stables in wrestling today as the concept has hit a bit of a renaissance. Promotions are now starting to use stables more, if nothing else due to the huge talent pools available to them. That means the promotions need a way to get so many people on television at any given time, but now one of them might be splitting up.
Retribution made their debut in August 2020 just after Summerslam and it has been a pretty big mess ever since. The team has not clicked in the slightest and that is never a good thing to see. Retribution had an interesting take with the hackers for justice deal, but almost every unique aspect has been dropped. Now it seems that even more than that is going to be dropped.
According to Wrestling Observer, WWE does not have plans for the individual members of Retribution when the team breaks up. Other than Mustafa Ali, none of the team has had a singles run as a member of the main roster. This comes after Ali yelled at the team at Fastlane, resulting in Slapjack and Reckoning walking out on him, followed by a double chokeslam from Mace and T-Bar.
It has potential. Check out the individual members in action:
Opinion: This seems to be for the best as there is little left for Retribution to do. The team has not been a success in almost any sense of the word and it has been getting worst instead of better. Just letting the team be over so we can move on to something else for all of them is a good idea. Let these wrestlers see what they can do without having to be part of a bad stable, which is going to hurt their development quite a bit.
