Can you feel it? Naomi is one of the most athletic female wrestlers (or wrestlers in general actually) in WWE either today or ever. Earlier this month at “Elimination Chamber 2017”, she won her first WWE Women’s Championship by defeating Alexa Bliss. A lot of her recent success has been due to a gimmick called “the Glow”. However, WWE didn’t really seem too interested in it at first.
On where the Glow idea came from:
“The inspiration comes from a movie from the 80s, called The Last Dragon. It’s about this martial artist who is on this journey to find the glow. It’s all about him really at the end of the day finding his confidence. He had it all along. He just had to look within himself.”
As for whether WWE liked the idea in the first place:
“No. Absolutely not. Two years. It took me two years to get them to finally hear me out on this concept, this idea, and the entrance and everything.”
You can see the full interview below. Note that this was recorded before Naomi had to vacate the Women’s Title due to injury.
Opinion: Naomi is an interesting case where she’s more of a fun character who is being pushed as a big deal. While I think the “YOU DESERVE IT” chants are a bit of a stretch, she’s definitely entertaining in the ring. I can get behind the Glow idea as it’s the best part of her character, though it seems that there’s more to it than just the cool entrance.
Do you think Naomi will get the title back? Who should she feud with upon her return? Let us know in the comments below.
