Well it’s not the traditional news source. The SmackDown Live women’s division has become a lot more interesting over the last few weeks. With Asuka becoming SmackDown Women’s Champion by taking the title from Becky Lynch, we’re in a new era for the show. Lynch is still incredibly popular though and that means she’s in for some major matches, one of which we now know.
This week on Main Event, it was announced that Lynch will be challenging Asuka for the SmackDown Women’s Title next month at the 2019 Royal Rumble. Asuka won the title this past Sunday at TLC in a triple threat Tables Ladders and Chairs match, also featuring Charlotte. This will be their first ever singles match against each other with both on the main roster, though Lynch did challenge Asuka for the NXT Women’s Title in 2016 while only Lynch was on the main roster.
They know how to get violent with each other. Check out a clip of these two beating each other up at TLC:
Opinion: You had to know this was coming and the question becomes where do things go from here. It’s possible to have Lynch lose and then jump into the Royal Rumble and win the WrestleMania 35 title shot, or have her win the title outright here. Either way, it’s hard to imagine anything other than a major WrestleMania match for Lynch, though I’m not sure what Asuka is going to get at the biggest show of the year. It’s going to be interesting though and that’s what matters most.
Who do you see leaving with the title? What will these two be doing at WrestleMania? Let us know in the comments below.
