That’s a big one. To say that John Cena is one of the most important stars in WWE history would be an understatement. He’s worked his way very high u on the WWE ladder, to the point where he’s pretty easily one of the top five names in the history of the company. Now though, he’s moved more towards the mainstream side of things, which means his status is starting to grow. That includes a rather big honor.

As announced on WWE.com, Cena is going to receive the Muhammad Ali Legacy Award at the 2018 Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year Awards on December 11. The award, handed out annually, is given to a sports figure who “embodies the ideals of sportsmanship, leadership and philanthropy and has used sports as a platform to make the world a better place.” The ceremony will be televised on NBC SN on December 13.

Cena is no stranger to sports awards. Check out his opening monologue as the host of the ESPY Awards:

Opinion: That’s just awesome. Cena really has hit the mainstream pop culture world and a big reason for that is his ability to put on a suit and come off as one of the most professional, well read athletes around. That played a big part in making WWE look better because he wasn’t just another musclebound lunkheads being the star of the company. Cena has earned this and it’s nice to see him get such recognition.

How big of a mainstream star can Cena be? Will he ever win another World Title? Let us know in the comments below.
