It goes both ways. WWE has been the dominant force in the wrestling industry for a very long time now, but things have changed a bit in the last few years. AEW has risen up and become quite the competition for WWE, with all kinds of funds and a very talented roster. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one source in WWE feels that the battle between WWE and AEW will go the same way as other battles involving WWE have gone. That would mean AEW signing older, more established WWE stars while WWE signs younger stars from AEW. It is said that some AEW wrestlers are interested in jumping to WWE when their current deals expire. At the same time, AEW sources say they do not want to be seen as a “feeder league” to WWE. While there will be wrestlers moving between the two shows, it is expected that WWE will only focus on younger wrestlers.
Some stars have made the jump. Check out some who have gone either way:
Opinion: This makes sense, though we are still rather early in AEW’s history. Hopefully AEW will learn from other promotions’ mistakes over the years and focus more on the younger talent. Bringing in Adam Copeland and CM Punk are good moves, but they are not likely to be around AEW, at least in the ring, for a long time. On the other hand WWE brought in Jade Cargill, who could be a star for them for quite a while. What matters is getting wrestlers a bunch of options, and that is what AEW can offer.
