This could get ugly in a hurry. The Hardys are back in WWE and a lot of fans are begging for them to debut the Broken characters. There’s no secret to the fact that the Hardys invented them and made them work, but there’s something standing in their way of using the characters in WWE and that just got more complicated.

According to PWInsider.com, TNA Entertainment has filed trademarks on almost all of the Broken characters, including Broken Matt and Brother Nero for the sake of “ongoing wrestling exhibitions”, which would mean that they could use the characters on other performers if they chose to. There is no word on any kind of potential legal response from WWE or the Hardys themselves.

Opinion: I have no idea what Impact Wrestling stands to gain from this. Legally they’re right in saying that they own the intellectual property but come on: are they really going to put someone else in the roles? Is going the Fake Razor Ramon and Fake Diesel route really worth exploring? The only logical thing here is file the trademarks and then try to get money from WWE. Otherwise this is going to be WAY more trouble than it’s worth as they’ll look even more petty and low rent if we’re about to see Broken Robbie E. and Brother Sonjay.

What do you think Impact Wrestling wants out of this? Would they actually put someone else in the Broken roles? Let us know in the comments below.
