That’s one way to use Undertaker. There are some legends in wrestling that you just can’t duplicate. Some of them are just more special than others and they can show up at any time to offer something special. That is the kind of thing that you get at some of the bigger shows WWE produces, which is certainly the case around this time of year, even in an overseas show.
Starting in 2018, WWE began heading over to Saudi Arabia for multiple shows a year. These shows have not been the most well received, but they are going to be taking place no matter how many fans complain about them. As far as WWE is concerned though, what matters most is making the shows feel as big and important as possible, which is what they did this time around.
On Thursday, WWE presented its fifth show in Saudi Arabia with Super ShowDown 2020. During the buildup to the show, Undertaker had been announced as taking part in the show but it was not clear what he would be doing. Undertaker did appear and wrestled on the show, taking Rey Mysterio’s place in the Tuwaiq Cup Gauntlet, defeating AJ Styles to win the match. This was Undertaker’s first match since Extreme Rules 2019 and may set up a rumored WrestleMania 36 match against Styles.
We can add it to this list. Check out some of Undertaker’s returns:
Opinion: This works as well as anything else and I’d prefer this over Undertaker wrestling a full match. He is much better off as a special attraction than a regular performer so having him “wrestle” for about thirty seconds is as good of an idea as they have. If nothing else it sets up a Wrestlemania match without giving anything away here. It’s not a great moment or anything, but it’s a logical one.
