Even monsters get hurt. Earlier this month, Kane made a surprise return to SmackDown Live to save his former partner Daniel Bryan from an attack at the hands of the Bludgeon Brothers. The fans received the reunion rather warmly and SmackDown Live General Manager Paige immediately granted the reunited team a SmackDown Tag Team Title shot at Extreme Rules. Before the match though, the Bludgeon Brothers attacked Kane and Bryan with the former winding up in a walking boot through the match. It turns out there was a bit more behind the story.
How did the banged up Kane do?
According to PWInsider.com, the reason Kane was put into the injury angle was due to him coming into the show with an actual foot injury. He was seen backstage before the show in a walking boot. After the show was over, WWE.com posted an update stating that the Bludgeon Brothers’ attack left Kane with a broken ankle. There is no word on when Kane will be back in action, though his election for Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee is on August 2.
Opinion: I can go with the idea of using an actual injury for the sake of building up another team and that’s what we got right here. The Bludgeon Brothers got a little heat out of attacking both Bryan and Kane and it helped the match go in a certain direction. That being said, with Kane being legitimately injured, was there really any reason to not have him take a fall? If he can walk down and get physical, he can take a big boot or a discus lariat for the pin to help protect Bryan a bit.
