Welcome back! Injuries can be one o the worst things to happen to any wrestler as they can take someone out of the ring for a rather long time. It can be devastating to the storylines a promotion is running at any given time but the return to action can be quite the opening if necessary. That was the case this week as an injured star made a surprise return at the right moment.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: BREAKING: CM Punk Fired From AEW
Earlier this summer, Ricky Starks attacked Ricky Steamboat and whipped him with a belt after he felt Steamboat cost him a match. This week’s AEW Collision featured Starks challenging Steamboat to a strap match. Steamboat declined, but said he had someone else in mind. This caused Bryan Danielson to make his return, setting up a match with Starks for this weekend’s All Out. This was Danielson’s first appearance since breaking his arm at Forbidden Door on June 25.
This has potential. Check out the two in action:
Opinion: This is quite the relief, as there was at least the slightest chance that Steamboat himself could have faced Stark. Instead, having Steamboat introduce someone for a big return to set up a major match is a much better idea. Danielson can have a good match with anyone, so putting him in the ring with a young upstart like Stark, who could use the rub, is a good idea.
