Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. We’re coming up on the next WWE show in Saudi Arabia on June 7 and that means it’s time for the legends to come in and get the spotlight. This show will includes Brock Lesnar, Undertaker and Goldberg, the latter of whom has not been seen in over two years. It seems like a bit of a surprise return, but it turns out that there is a second reason to bring him back in.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE mainly signed Goldberg for the sake of keeping him away from AEW. WWE is interested in keeping any possibly mainstream stars away from AEW in an effort to prevent them from getting any kind of a foothold. There is no word on whether or not Goldberg would have been interested in working for AEW, or how long he might be working for WWE.
WWE certainly knows what they have. Check out their announcement of Goldberg’s return:
Opinion: I’m not sure what to think of this move, though WWE going after even more talents just to keep them away from AEW (who may or may not have even been considering Goldberg) sounds like a slippery slope. How many people is WWE going to bring in overall? I know WWE can afford them, but there is only so much time to present all of these people at once.
Is this a bad idea? Who else will WWE bring in to keep them from AEW? Let us know in the comments below.
