That would have been a little bit different. WrestleMania 36 was certainly not your standard wrestling show. Late last month, WWE taped the show at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida due to the spread of the Coronavirus. This changed up a lot of things, as there was were several changes to the lineup due to illness or fears of illness it turns out that we almost saw the original plan up until the last minute.
The biggest change of all during the show was Roman Reigns being swapped out of the Universal Title match against champion Goldberg. Braun Strowman took Reigns’ place due to Reigns being worried about being exposed to the Coronavirus, which caused him to sit the show out. WWE wanted to do the show though, and gave the wrestlers until after the last minute.
During his Carcast podcast, Goldberg discussed the show and the process of filming it in advance. This included his match with Strowman, though Goldberg mentioned that even after the match was taped, there was still a chance of him having the match against Reigns with the Strowman match being scrapped. This never took place though and Strowman defeated Goldberg to become the Universal Champion. WWE did not announce the new match until the night before the show, leaving them with as much time as possible to film a quick match should it be possible.
What we got was memorable. Check out what took place on the show:
Opinion: I can understand WWE wanting to run the match but at the same time, Reigns’ health is not something that they need to mess with. WWE is already playing with fire by having these matches whatsoever, so having a match that put Reigns at that much risk would have been a very bad idea. Thankfully common sense prevailed as it was the only thing they could have done.
