Show us the brackets! Last week on “Smackdown Live”, Dolph Ziggler seemed to vacate the United States Title by leaving it in the ring as he walked away. The future of the title wasn’t clear and was likely to be addressed during this week’s episode. It turns out that the title is vacant and we now know what’s going to happen with it going forward.

As announced tonight by General Manager Daniel Bryan, there will be an eight man tournament to crown a new champion with the finals taking place at a point in the future. While the full brackets haven’t been revealed, two first round matches were announced with two more to come, presumably next week. This week’s show featured Baron Corbin vs. Bobby Roode and Jinder Mahal vs. Tye Dillinger in first round matches.

Here’s how Ziggler let the title go.

Opinion: That’s certainly the interesting way to go about things. I’m not sure what the point was in putting the title on Ziggler in the first place but maybe this is to get them to the next champion without having Baron Corbin lose to them. That being said, why not put them into Ziggler’s spot in the triple threat match where Corbin lost?
