It was quite the change. One of the biggest wrestling surprise of the week saw Zelina Vega released from WWE. This seemed to come as the result of Vega disagreeing with WWE’s new policy regarding the Twitch streaming service, which would see WWE take over its wrestlers’ accounts. Vega’s release seemed to come out of nowhere and now we are finding out a little more about it.
Vega was released on Friday, with the announcement coming just after she posted a tweet saying that she supports unionization. This would have seemed to be the reason for the release, but according to Post Wrestling, Vega knew of the release before she had posted the tweet. According to Fightful Select, wrestlers in both WWE and AEW were shocked and surprised by the release and were trying to find out more information about the situation. After her release was announced, Vega took to Twitter, thanking the fans for allowing her to have the last four years.

As for Vega’s future, she is currently under a ninety day no compete clause, meaning that she will not be able to appear on a wrestling television show until the middle of February. As a result, she would be able to appear at AEW’s next pay per view even, Revolution, which takes place on February 27. It is not clear if there is any interest from AEW in bringing Vega in for the show or something more permanent.

We have all become very familiar with the talents and drive of @Zelina_VegaWWE . Despite a pain in the ass setback, i have no doubt she will wind up doing something incredible in a matter of time. You can’t steal someone’s magic.

You might be seeing more than this. Check out Vega’s time in the ring away from WWE:

Opinion: This is the kind of thing that you almost had to see coming after everything else that has already happened and that is not good to see. The Twitch issue is going to become a bigger story in the near future and the big question now is seeing who, if anyone, is going to be gone from WWE as a result. This is not the most normal situation and it could go a variety of different ways.
What is next for Vega? Who else will be released from WWE as a result? Let us know in the comments below.
