There Was A Dark Match Before Takeover: WarGames

Setting the table. Sunday night saw a pretty big event for NXT as the company presented Takeover: WarGames 2020. The show was focused on a pair of the namesake match, as two teams of eight wrestlers each took part in a men’s and women’s WarGames match. That alone is enough to headline a show but there were some other matches included. It turns out that there was even one more match that you wouldn’t have seen.

There are a lot of wrestlers in NXT and some of them are a lot more important than others. While Takeover is the biggest series of shows for NXT in any given year, not everyone can fit on the show. When you have sixteen wrestlers taking up two matches, things are going to be a little off for the evening. It turns out that those weren’t the only two matches with a lot of people involved.

According to PWInsider.com, there was a six man tag held before Sunday’s Takeover: WarGames. The match featured Legado del Fantasma defeating the team of Curt Stallion, August Grey and Ashante Adonis. Stallion is currently the #1 contender to Santos Escobar’s NXT Cruiserweight Title. It is not clear when or if the match will ever be aired, or if it was filmed. The match was not shown or mentioned on the Kickoff Show.

Opinion: I’m not entirely sure what the point was in having a dark match for a show like this, but maybe it pops up on this week’s TV show or something like that. At least they tied it into an upcoming title match and didn’t have it on the card to make an already busy day even longer. The match could be an interesting one if it ever makes air, as there are some talented people included.
