Switch it up! Over the last few weeks, there have been rumors that Daniel Bryan wasn’t going to work the Crown Jewel event. Due to the major incident involving the death of a journalist at the hands of Saudi Arabian agents, Bryan wasn’t comfortable performing in the country. This presented a problem as Bryan was scheduled to challenge for the Smackdown World Title. We now know how WWE is going to get out of things.
This week on SmackDown Live, Bryan received his shot at the title and lost to Styles clean via the Calf Crusher. The two shook hands after the match when Samoa Joe ran in and attacked Styles, laying him out with the Koquina Clutch, followed by one to Bryan as well. Later in the night, Styles said that he wanted to face Samoa Joe at Crown Jewel for the title and the match was granted.
Here’s how the title match went down.
Opinion: This was as good of an idea as they could have had as no one is really ready to challenge Styles at the moment. Styles and Samoa Joe just came off a hot feud so it’s not like this is something straight out of left field. It was either this or Shinsuke Nakamura and they made the right call with Samoa Joe. Sure it feels like they’re reheating what they just finished, but what else could they really do without making something completely random?
