They’re certainly starting with a bang. With the debut of the all cruiserweight show “205 Live” coming next Tuesday night, it would make sense to have a major title match on the first episode. Tonight on “Monday Night Raw”, such a title match was set. Rich Swann won a triple threat match including TJ Perkins and Noam Dar to become #1 contender and will face Brian Kendrick for the title next week.
Swann was already a contender to the title as he defeated Kendrick twice, including in a tag match and a singles match on “Monday Night Raw” over the span of three weeks. Kendrick won the title from TJ Perkins and is the second champion in the title’s history, whose lineage only dates back to the middle of September.
I can’t think of a better challenger on a big show than Swann. At the end of the day, Swann is one of the only characters in the division to catch on with the audience, which you have to expect from someone who has so much charisma and such an energetic entrance. While he doesn’t seem like the biggest threat to the title, a changing of the guard would be a good idea for a first episode as Kendrick hasn’t been the most interesting champion.
