He’s the prize of this year’s class. Shinsuke Nakamura debuted in NXT about a year ago and took the brand completely by storm. After debuting in a classic against Sami Zayn at “Takeover: Dallas”, Nakamura was NXT Champion in less than five months and a two time champion soon after that. The question became when would he got to the main roster, with a secondary question of where would he wind up. Nakamura has his own opinion on the second question.
“I want to be on SmackDown because it has AJ Styles, Randy Orton and John Cena — a lot of dream matches I can do,” Nakamura said. “Also, Monday Night Raw has a lot of friends there [who previously wrestled in Japan] like Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, [Luke] Gallows and [Karl] Anderson, which would be much comfortable for me. But first I need to concentrate for TakeOver: Orlando now and Bobby Roode.”
This follows Nakamura’s previous statement about being fine with appearing on either brand.
Opinion: I can’t really disagree with him. While either show is fine, “Monday Night Raw” is already stacked with talent. On top of that, “Monday Night Raw” tends to be the more storyline driven show while Nakamura is much more about the in-ring action. “Smackdown Live” would be a better fit for him, though Nakamura certainly doesn’t sound like it’s the only thing place he would want to go.
