Who cares if he’s a top talent? The new version of the National Wrestling Alliance is off to a fairly strong start. With new owner Billy Corgan and new NWA World Champion Nick Aldis (formerly known as Magnus) on top, the promotion is seemingly showing some promise. However, Aldis’ previous employer might not have thought as much of him as his new one.

In a new interview on “Busted Open Radio”, Corgan talked about Aldis’ time in Impact Wrestling, during which the company’s higher ups would bury Aldis during meetings. While there was no reason given for this treatment, Corgan said that he had never had any issues working with Aldis. Here are some highlights, with transcription courtesy of wrestlinginc.com:
On the Meetings

“I sat in many TNA meetings where Nick [Aldis’] name came up and people in the company openly buried him,” Corgan said. “And you would say this guy is in his prime – both as a performer and as a talent – and it was always about his attitude. People didn’t want to work with him.”

And on His Interactions with Aldis

“Me personally, never had an issue,” Corgan responded. “I’ve been friends with his wife, [Mickie James], for years so maybe that changed the tenor of the dynamic with working with him. So when the opportunity came up for him to be involved with the NWA, we jumped at it because we think he’s a top tier talent.”

Billy Corgan Talks NWA & Wrestling's New Golden Era

Opinion: I’ve never been the biggest Aldis fan but that’s not to say he should be buried. I’m not sure I can see him as the top star of Impact Wrestling but I can easily see why Corgan wants him as the centerpiece of the NWA. Aldis has a good look, can talk and has the resume to back up being a top star while only being thirty one years old. It makes sense and I can’t fault Corgan’s line of thinking.
