The villain of tomorrow? Asuka has been a fascinating person to watch over the last few years. She debuted in NXT and never actually lost a match, eventually vacating the NXT Women’s Title. Soon after that she came up to the main roster and continued her undefeated streak, only to fall to Charlotte at WrestleMania 34. It’s been downhill from there for her and it might be time for a change.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio by way of Rajah.com, there is talk of turning Asuka heel to freshen up her character. Asuka is on a bit of a downward trend at the moment, having lost her two pay per view title shots in a row to Carmella. These plans might be up in the air after Becky Lynch turned heel last night after her match at Summerslam. Asuka hasn’t wrestled on television since July 24 when she defeated Billie Kay.
Here are some of her better days.
Opinion: You know what might have helped? Not putting Asuka into the position where she loses twice in a row to Carmella after losing to Charlotte in the biggest match of her career. Her whole career and aura was built around the idea of her being unbeatable. Like so many others before her though, she’s been forgotten for the sake of other stories on the show and instead of coming up with a story, the only idea seems to be turning her. Hopefully WWE is willing to actually put in the work, because Asuka is worth the effort.
